I GOT YOU!
from kindness to kindness
“If womanhood, motherhood, heck…humanhood feels like a sacred spiral, part spiritual practice, part primal scream,🪷 MOMTEMPLATIVE🕯️, is where you’ll feel seen, heard, and hopefully a little less alone in this human family we all find ourselves in. I invite readers to slow down, give yourself a lot of grace as you contemplate life, and everything in between. Because, let’s be honest, there’s a lot of life that happens in the in-between.”
“Do you ever feel like the big secret is that we are gods? We fuc-ing create life. We are so powerful.” Rachel Yoder
The other day at the airport, I was sitting and watching as another person, and then another, came and took up a seat as the airport became more and more crowded. Our flight was delayed, once again, for the fourth time.
I was looking around, trying to figure out my next move. I needed to go to the bathroom. I wanted to get a coffee. I was getting hungry. And I didn’t want to lose my seat by taking my bags with me.
There was a young couple sitting across from me. I had been observing how she gently tended, with such care and attention, to her companion, who was in a wheelchair with a broken arm. Just from watching them, I could tell this was someone I could trust.
So I looked over at her and said, “Excuse me. Do you mind watching my bags while I run to the restroom?”
Her three words. As she looked me straight in the eyes and met me with a kindness.
“I got you.”
And just like that, everything felt okay.
As I got up and walked to my destination, I knew that someone I had just met, someone who didn’t know my name and whose name I didn’t know, had my back. Just the way she looked at me carried such an assuredness.
I got you.
When I came back, my bags were safe and sound. I thanked her, telling her, “I appreciate you.” And with that, we smiled at one another as I settled back into my seat, feeling gotten.
Isn’t that what we all want? To feel gotten when we ask for help.
Maybe it’s someone in line with just one item behind you, and you let them go in front of you.
I got you.
Or holding the door open for someone walking behind you.
I got you.
Or translating for someone struggling with a language they don’t speak comfortably.
I got you.
All met with a kindness and an assuredness in their eyes that you truly got them.
Like I felt and received from my kind stranger.
I know that my ask and her kind response inspired something in me. A desire to be there for someone else. To be the one who says, when someone is in need,
I got you.
With love,
Sherry🪷

Ok this got me crying and I'm gonna do my best to be somewhat coherent.
This is such a beautiful story of noticing, of care, of reciprocity. You "got" so many of us with your kindness and heart. I know that the support you give others comes back to you ten fold, or better.
I'm really in my "or better" era today LOL - actually thank you, thank you for reminding me to wish and pray for things and adding "or better" at the end. This is the vibe.
Sherry, trusting your instincts in a busy airport shows a special bravery. Thank you for reminding me that love conquers fear. 😌
