Ireland, here I come! 🎉 As a young girl, I was completely captivated by "Wuthering Heights," both the book and the movie.
I was hopelessly swept away by the tumultuous romance of Cathy and Heathcliff. Looking back, I realize just how tragic their love story was, but that didn’t stop my imagination from wanting to craft a hauntingly beautiful narrative of my own.
Growing up on a secluded Air Force base, I was shielded by so much, and the moors that the characters would meet to express their love to one another outside of their restricted living experiences were just a distant fantasy to me—I could relate so much to them desiring freedom as a young African American girl dreaming of adventure beyond the protective walls around me.
Now, as an adult, I fully understand the complexities of their unhealthy relationship. But back then, I longed to experience something beyond the stagnation of my upbringing.
And then, out of the blue, my oldest daughter called with the most thrilling news: “Hey Mom, how would you like to go to Ireland? I have an extra ticket from a friend who had to cancel.”
What?! 😦😦
I can hardly believe it! This is really happening, and I’m beyond grateful! 🌍✈️ I am ready to embrace new experiences as a woman, as a human being, and as a writer.
Who knows what adventures await me on this journey?
I have had such a longing as a recent empty nester to experience something beyond the familiar world I've existed in.
The opportunity has presented itself to me and I am going all in!🙌🏾
One thing's for sure: I’m opening myself to everything that comes my way!
