Alter Egos… Sasha Fierce! Beyoncé’s alter ego. Who’s your Sasha Fierce? The alter ego you call upon when you need to bring the fire to your creativity?
We were asked that this morning while attending my writing session with a group of fabulous women, hosted by the fabulous founder of Rise and Write, @Simone P.M. Dalton.
The prompt was:
“Conjure an artist, a writer, a musician, a leader, or a loved one. Or maybe 'bad girl' RiRi is your person. Visualize asking them what they would do if they were you, living your life. What Would {Blank} Do? Write down the details.”
I came up with, of all people, Ernest Hemingway with a Maya Angelou spirit.
Ernest Hemingway was one of the first authors I read and studied as a young girl. There was something about his no-nonsense, independent, and "doesn't conform to societal expectations" attitude that attracted me, especially as a people-pleasing, good girl and extremely shy introvert.
Minus the drinking and smoking, 😅 maybe a nice red wine and incense on my desk, to bring his spirit to my writing with the wisdom of the incomparable Maya Angelou.
That little girl still lives in me, and I love the idea of calling upon an alter ego that will get the job done when she’s being squeamish or caring too much about what others may think.
To be bolder in my writing. To throw caution to the wind. To Sasha Fierce my craft.
How about you? Do you have an alter ego you use to fuel your creativity? And if you don’t, who would it be?
Oh this is so so cool! Will definitely be pondering this one! But as of now...I do call in my future self when I'm stuck anywhere or need help! And she helps me through things!
I like this, I will be pondering this one.
