(seeds to the tree of life)
By Sherry Taveras
There’s an everyday kindness shared among us that goes beyond words. It’s in the simple act of holding a door for someone or letting them go ahead of you.
It’s in the gesture of allowing someone to pass on the road, or in the gentle glance and smile exchanged as someone walks by.
It’s picking up something someone has dropped or returning a lost item they desperately seek.
It’s the look of understanding given to a mother struggling with her children in a store, or the silence shared with a friend going through a tough time—just being present is often enough.
It’s shedding tears for the brokenhearted, praying silently for others without being asked, and sharing laughter with a friend when no one else gets the joke but you.
It’s in the hands of a mother hugging her children close to her breast, tucking them in gently at night, and in the embrace between friends over a meal served with love.
A kiss shared between loved ones, the gentle touch of a hand on another's cheek, the reassuring look of encouragement to someone amid their fear.
It’s a message of encouragement sent via text, letting someone know you’re thinking of them and that they are loved.
These small gestures remind us we’re not alone in this vast, complicated world. They uplift our lives, breaking the monotony of our days and acknowledging our existence. They show us that we are seen, welcomed, and embraced.
We all cherish those unexpected moments of kindness that melt our hearts, opening us up from our closed-off, untrusting selves. Sharing in each other's humanity, helps us remember that goodness exists in others-within ourselves, and that there is always hope.
If we keep planting seeds of kindness, they will grow into a tree of love under which we can all find shade and rest together. I truly believe this for all of us.
